Climate change was the defining priority of the 2022 Federal Election, with a resounding victory for candidates promising to do more about global warming. Labour celebrated its win by announcing Australia will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 43 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030 and net zero by 2050. Labour’s Power Australia plan toward a greener future includes:
- modernising Australia’s electricity grid;
- investing in green technology and waste reduction; and
- improving energy efficiency within existing industries.
Emerald’s products have been supporting goals of reducing carbon emissions since our inception in 2006. While Emerald does not endorse or support any political party, we’ve met with several members of parliament to discuss renewables and energy efficiency at a local, state, and national level. Zali Stegall OAM, Independent Teal Member for Warringah Council, recently visited Emerald’s head office on the Northern Beaches of Sydney to discuss Zali’s Roadmap To Net Zero. Zali and her team were interested to learn more about Emerald’s energy-saving products and our involvement across state-based and national carbon abatement and energy-efficiency schemes.
Also discussed were the benefits associated with electricity peak demand reduction. With the Emerald app, you can easily manage your electricity usage with a few simple changes to your routine.
- Shifting the use of electrical appliances outside the peak time, often the most expensive times to use electricity.
- ‘Taking turns’ using appliances to spread out your usage during peak times.
This change in habits will reduce the demand placed on the electricity grid during peak periods and, importantly, lower your electricity bills. For example, shifting the use of a typical 1.8kW dishwasher outside the peak period could reduce your electricity bill by around $168 over the course of a year!
