Lights Out, Now What? Activities For Earth Hour That Don’t Use Power
Participating in Earth Hour is one of our favourite sustainable annual events, but turning off the lights and the TV can lose its novelty after 5 minutes if you don’t have activities planned. So, we have come up with some fun and family friendly ideas to keep you and your loved ones entertained – whilst keeping the power off this Earth Hour!
Time to Switch Off!
Let’s start with the basics – Earth Hour, Saturday 23rd March, 8.30pm til 9.30pm – encourages you to turn off those non-essential lights and bask in the glow of candlelight (safely, of course). At Emerald, we like to take our Earth Hour tradition a bit further and turn off all the appliances in our home that use power, setting the mood for a night of planet-friendly festivities.
1. Picnic Under The Stars
Head outside for a magical stargazing session. Set up a picnic blanket and cushions for optimum comfort. Connect with nature, marvel at the cosmos and appreciate the beauty of our planet. Don’t forget to share your starry snapshots on social media to inspire others to look up!
2. Glow-In-The-Dark Game Night
Who says Earth Hour must be serious? Break out the board games, light the candles and let the fun begin! Not only will you be reducing energy consumption during Earth Hour, but you’re also creating unforgettable memories with laughter, competition and a touch of glowing magic.
3. Tech It to The Next Level
While your lights are off, why not take a deep dive into the Emerald App? This nifty tool is like having a sustainability superhero in your pocket! Use the Electricity Advisor to monitor your home’s energy usage in real time and create an electricity budget to stay on top of bills.
4. Nature Scavenger Hunt
Create a list of items to find, such as leaves, rocks or specific types of flowers. Head out into your backyard, or a nearby park armed with flashlights and explore the natural world around you. This activity not only encourages outdoor exploration but also fosters a deeper connection with the environment and its biodiversity. Plus, it’s a fun way to learn more about local flora and fauna while reducing your carbon footprint. Happy hunting!
Track Your Green Wins
As you dive into these Earth Hour activities, use the Emerald App to track your energy savings. The Electricity Advisor helps you visually monitor energy usage, receive weekly reports, and discover energy-saving tips tailored to your lifestyle. It’s like having a green mentor guiding you towards a more sustainable future!
So, there you have it – a lineup of sustainable activities to amp up your Earth Hour experience. Remember, every small green step counts, and with a touch of tech-savvy guidance from apps like Emerald, you can make a big impact on the planet while having a blast! Let’s make Earth Hour not just an hour but a mindset of everyday eco-conscious living. Cheers to a greener, brighter future!
